Teeth staining and whitening

An extremely popular aesthetic dentistry procedure is teeth whitening. Cosmetic teeth whitening helps in restoring the appearance of your teeth before they get exposed to beverages, food, and other such things that stain the enamel of your tooth. However, whitening is impermanent, but can last for a pretty long time if proper oral hygiene and habits are followed. Professional whitening treatments are a great way to brightening a dull smile.

Numerous factors lead to tooth discoloration. As a person ages, the frontal layer of the enamel starts to wear off and the dentin starts exposing. Tobacco and caffeine also quicken the wearing away. As dentin has a darker shade than the tooth enamel, teeth that are worn look dingy and dull.

There are also a few chemicals that the teeth absorb. Tea, coffee, sauces, and berries are a few culprits that are known to stain the teeth. Flossing and brushing can assist in preventing such stains, but even the most watchful among us experience staining over time. Tooth stains can also be because of other factors. Flurosis, injuries, and medicines can all end up discoloring the teeth. Unfortunately, flossing and brushing can do nothing to stop this form of staining.

Can staining be reversed?
Fortunately there is a way of reversing the effects of staining, irrespective of whether the issue is because of external or internal factors. Teeth whitening products can be bought for in-home use. However, these products do not always offer satisfying results. The products could also be rough and create more damage to the tooth enamel when compared to a professional teeth whitening procedure.

Office whitening treatments are known for being gentle and can create drastic changes to the color of the teeth. Teeth whitening is not permanent. However, it does have the ability to last for five years, particularly if the person is able to visit the dentist regularly and follow good oral habits.

When going for a teeth whitening process, it is very important to choose a cosmetic dentist wisely. Once damaged, it is very difficult to repair the teeth so make sure you are in good hands.
