Regular dental checkups can save your life

Most people delay scheduling an appointment with a dental expert till they experience an acute toothache. Their logic is why visit a dental clinic if you have no issue with your teeth? This is wrong! The fact is, a toothache indicates towards tooth decay which has already progressed to an advanced stage. Proper checkups help a dentist open on a Sunday to figure out potential issues and take the right action before it’s too late. At the time of a routine checkup, dental experts also investigate for oral cancer, which can save your life.
What really happens during a routine checkup?
At the time of a checkup, the dental expert will first verify any concerns you may have regarding your teeth and put up questions regarding your overall health and also about the medicines that you are on. After that, a detailed oral exam is carried out where the dental expert checks for any signs of gum disease and decay and symptoms of oral cancer. The expert may also check for signs of erosion or cracks and will inspect your existing bridges, fillings, or crowns to ensure they are intact with no decay or cracks. The expert may also take x-rays if necessary for checking for any decay within areas that cannot be examined visually or in case there is a suspicion that you could be suffering from a gum problem.

Once the oral exam is done, the dental expert will then continue to clean the teeth and get rid of any plaque that may have built up over your projections. The plaque elimination is done through hand instruments that are designed with metal. After the cleaning is complete, the dentist open Sunday polishes the teeth and gets rid of any stains on the tooth’s surface. Polishing is normally done with the help of an abrasive substance made of fluoride which is applied on a rotating rubber brush. Depending on your condition, the dental expert may or may not suggest any other measures of treatment.
